Custom Threaded Glass Lamp Shades
Threaded glass lamp shades combine a lighting-glass body with a screw-on neck. The glass thread provides retention without a separate external ring, making it useful for compact fixtures and replaceable globes, domes or tubular shades.
The functional product is the thread together with its mating holder. China Lampoptics therefore controls the body profile, thread form, seating position and neck wall as one part.
Shade Body Options
| Body | Light effect | Common arrangement |
|---|---|---|
| Round globe | Clear or diffuse light around the source | Pendant, chandelier and wall fixture |
| Flat-top globe | Rounded body with a controlled upper profile | Compact decorative fixture |
| Cylinder | Straight visible wall and compact diameter | Pendant and equipment lighting |
| Cone or bell | Directional opening and decorative silhouette | Downlight and feature pendant |
| Project-specific body | Profile reproduced from a drawing or sample | Replacement and OEM fixture programs |
Thread and Neck Specifications
| Thread standard or drawing | ____ |
|---|---|
| Major diameter | ____ mm |
| Minor diameter | ____ mm |
| Pitch and lead | ____ |
| Engagement length | ____ mm |
| Lead-in / runout | ____ |
| Seating face position | ____ mm |
| Neck wall thickness | ____ mm |
| Body concentricity to thread | ____ |
| Fit gauge | ____ |
A lamp-holder designation does not fully define the glass thread. The mating holder or a controlled thread drawing is required to establish engagement, stop position and assembly clearance.
Fit and Quality Control
- Thread gauge: checks the usable glass-thread envelope without forcing the part
- Mating-holder test: confirms engagement depth and seating position in the actual fixture
- Neck inspection: checks cracks, chips and wall transitions around the most highly loaded area
- Body alignment: keeps the installed shade centered relative to the holder
Manufacturing Capabilities
Lampoptics can develop molds from drawings or samples in its mold workshop and produce lighting glass on dedicated production lines. Annealing is used to control residual stress before fit inspection and compatible finishing.
Clear, diffusing, colored, coated or sandblasted appearances can be evaluated. The available body profiles, glass grades and thread range are ____.
Threaded Glass Shade Processing

Thread Gauge Definition
The mating holder, drawing or fit gauge defines thread profile, engagement length, neck diameter and seating position.

Mold and Thread Forming
Dedicated tooling forms the shade body and threaded neck with controlled glass flow around the engagement feature.

Annealing
The part is annealed with attention to the heavier neck and thread section where residual stress can affect service reliability.

Fit and Finish Inspection
Thread engagement, seating height and rotation are checked with the approved mating component before cosmetic inspection.
Applications
- Replacement globes: repeatable screw-on glass for an established holder
- Pendant and chandelier lighting: threaded opal or clear globes with concealed retention
- Wall and ceiling fixtures: compact shades with controlled installed height
- Equipment lighting: threaded covers developed with the housing and service condition
Threaded Glass Lamp Shade FAQs
Can Lampoptics match an existing glass thread?
Yes. The existing shade and mating holder can be used to define a drawing and fit gauge.
Are E26, E27 and G9 all the same glass thread?
No. Those names primarily identify lamp or holder systems; the glass neck must be defined by its actual thread and seating dimensions.
Can the thread be combined with an opal globe?
Yes, subject to the selected glass, body geometry and available forming route. The confirmed combination is ____.
How is thread fit inspected?
A controlled mating holder or GO/NO-GO gauge is used together with visual inspection of the neck and thread.
Can threaded shades receive surface finishing?
Lampoptics has coating and sandblasting capability. Masking around the thread and seating surface is defined by the product drawing.
