Custom Explosion-Proof Glass Covers

Explosion-proof glass covers are used in luminaires for hazardous or severe industrial environments. The glass may be dome-shaped, ribbed, cylindrical, globular, flanged or threaded, but its safety function depends on the certified housing, gasket, retainer, wall section and flame-path or containment design.

China Lampoptics can manufacture glass components to an approved drawing or sample. A replacement glass must not be selected only by outside size or appearance; the exact material, geometry, process and assembly revision must remain under the equipment certification.

Values from another manufacturer's catalog cannot be transferred to a Lampoptics part or to a different housing. Any material or process substitution requires review under the applicable certification and quality plan.

Manufacturing and Inspection

  1. Controlled material: use the approved glass composition and incoming acceptance criteria
  2. Molded geometry: maintain the specified wall, rib, flange or thread profile
  3. Annealing: control residual stress before final inspection
  4. Dimensional inspection: verify all certified interfaces and minimum sections
  5. Assembly validation: test the glass only in the controlled housing when required by the standard

Lampoptics Capabilities

Lampoptics has in-house mold development, lamp-glass production, annealing and tempering workshops. Physical tempering, chemical tempering, coating, sandblasting and drilling are available manufacturing capabilities, but only the processes permitted by the certified drawing may be used on an explosion-proof component.

Lampoptics certifications, approved hazardous-area standards and current qualified size range are ____.

Explosion-Proof Cover Processing

Mold development for custom glass lamp shades

Assembly Requirement Review

The luminaire drawing, supported area, gasket, retainer and applicable certification requirements are reviewed as one system.

Glass pressing and forming for lamp shades

Heavy-Section Forming

The glass cover is formed with attention to wall distribution, flange geometry and molded optical or reinforcing features.

Controlled annealing of formed glass lamp shades

Annealing and Strengthening

Residual stress is controlled before any approved strengthening process is applied to the selected glass and shape.

Secondary finishing of glass lamp shades

Inspection and Assembly Validation

Dimensions, edge condition and visual quality are checked; pressure, impact or certification tests remain defined for the complete assembly.

Applications

  • Mining luminaires: ribbed covers for cap lamps, warning lights and fixed fixtures
  • Oil, gas and chemical facilities: glass components for certified enclosed lighting
  • Airfield and marine lighting: clear or ribbed covers exposed to severe service
  • Industrial floodlights: dome and flat glass within controlled hazardous-area housings

Explosion-Proof Glass Cover FAQs

Is any thick glass automatically explosion-proof?

No. Explosion protection is established by the complete certified assembly, not by thickness or glass appearance alone.

Can a broken cover be copied from a sample?

The sample can support dimensional reconstruction, but the approved drawing, material and equipment certification must govern the replacement.

Can the glass material be changed?

Only after formal review and, where required, requalification under the applicable standard.

Can an explosion-proof cover be drilled or coated?

Only processes explicitly permitted by the approved design may be used. Uncontrolled post-processing can invalidate the component.

What Lampoptics certifications are available?

The applicable Lampoptics certifications and product approvals are ____.
